Leeds branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann was established in 1969, teaching and developing children and young people into fantastic musicians, simultaneously enriching their lives and the enhancing the cultural tapestry of Leeds.
During its 55 years the branch has welcomed countless children and their families, nurturing talent, confidence and friendships. The combination of high standards of musicianship and an engaging sense of community upon which encapsulate the timeless philosophy of passing on traditional Irish music remains at the heart of Leeds CCE and are central to the success of the branch.
Leeds CCE offers lessons on a range of traditional Irish instruments using predominantly the traditional method of learning by ear, thus rapidly developing the student’s mastery of their instrument and an intrinsic understanding of the subtle nuance of authentic traditional Irish music. Underpinning this, the students acquire a solid understanding of music theory which enables them to easily bridge their learning to other styles and genres of music.
Lessons take place at Leeds Irish centre 18:00 – 20:30 Tuesday evenings (term time only). You may wish to come along to one of the sessions (traditional music informal performances), that the branch regularly organises – First Saturday of the month 20:00 onwards in the The Davitt Bar, Leeds Irish Centre, York Road.
If you are interested in getting involved with the branch (whether to listen, learn or participate), or would like to know more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
