Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann can be roughly translated as the Association of Irish musicians and is often referred to as “Comhaltas” or “CCÉ”.
It is a non-profit-making, non-political and non-denominational organisation, with headquarters in Ireland, and branches worldwide; it is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Irish language and culture – specifically Irish traditional music, song and dance.
What is Leeds CCE?
Leeds CCÉ is an active and vibrant community organisation which promotes the aims of Comhaltas in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
The Leeds branch was formed in October 1969 and has been developing excellent musicians and lifelong friendships ever since. With a strong emphasis on instrument mastery and developing solo and ensemble performances with our students from an early age, the branch has a tradition of nurturing talent and developing musicians with an internationally recognised pedigree.
Our branch organises a wide range of activities and events throughout the year, including music sessions, concerts, workshops and céilís. Our members also support local charity events, weekly set-dance classes and monthly singing sessions. Such events provide opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels to engage with Irish music and culture, whether as performers, learners, or enthusiastic audience members.
The branch is home to a vibrant community of musicians, dancers, singers, and Irish language enthusiasts. It welcomes both beginners and experienced practitioners, fostering a warm and inclusive environment where individuals can learn, share, and appreciate Irish traditions.
